Azaaba

Well we've finally left the family's house and have moved into a guest house for the remainder of our stay. It is so nice to finally have a toilet and a shower and a place where we can truly relax. We just couldn't stay in the house any longer. The previous morning one of the sisters came into our room when I was eating breakfast and asked me for money to photocopy her resume and gas so she could go hand them out. This is after we had already told her how we hated people asking us for money and this was innapropriate. This is not the first time this has happened, some of the other siblings have also tried to get money from us. This makes our stay even more uncomfortable as they get angry when we say no and avoid speaking to us. After this we called the guest house and they had a room available so we took it. The family did not like the fact that we were leaving but both Tammy and I are very happy with our decision. The guest house is owned by a french man and his Burkinabe partner. They give us breakfast and dinner. Dinner is nice because everyone sits down together outside on the patio. They are both very nice and we now they will take good care of us. Tammy and I are finally starting to get a feel about how to get things done at ANERSER. We've taken over the classroom in the mornings, where we work on our alphabet, basic addition, and subtraction. Last week we did some fingerpainting with the boys and this week we have organized a spaghetti dinner where all the staff and kids are invited to eat, dance, and play games. Neither me nor Tammy know how to cook on the stones that most people cook with here, so we are relying on the not so reliable staff to make the dinner. Next saturday we are leaving for our midsummer retreat. We have decided to stay in Burkina Faso instead of going down to Ghana. We are going to a smaller city in the southwest called Bobo_Diolasso and then to a small town called Banfora that is supposed to be quite picturesque. I just want to see some animals before I go home. So our spirits are starting to lift as we get ready for our holiday and I hoping to get some pictures up soon.
